Douglas Ellis has been involved in commercial real
estate since 1974 and was previously employed by Goodman Segar, Inc.,
one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the Southeast headquartered
in Norfolk, Virginia. As Assistant Vice President, he directed the
Industrial Properties Department involved in sales, leasing and development
of industrial properties.
While associated with Goodman Segar Hogan, Mr. Ellis
sold/leased in excess of ten million square feet and was recognized
as one of the top producers in industrial real estate. He joined Robinson
and Wetmore in 1984, the firm then became Robinson, Wetmore and Ellis
formed to develop commercial/industrial real estate for their own
account. During the period 1984-1988, the firm developed over two
million square feet of office, business center and industrial space
in Hampton Roads and Richmond.
Ellis Development Company (EDC) was formed in January
1988 with its objective to concentrate on development of industrial
properties, encompassing office/warehouse, large distribution, and
manufacturing plants. Focus has been directed toward credit tenant
build-to-suit projects in selected industrial, retail and office markets.
The company name was changed to Ellis-Gibson Development Group in
1995 as it was expanded, having made major commitment into the neighborhood
shopping center and retail development market.
Firm size has been kept small, with reliance on a
contracted development team. Priority is given to quality value creation
over cost, with emphasis on product delivery utilizing a service oriented
and flexible “hands on” approach.
Over seventy (70) projects have been completed, occupying
each of the major sectors in all cities within the region. Key has
been specialization and long term tenant relationships.
Mr. Ellis was graduated from Allegheny College with
a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1966. He was past President (1988) of
the Virginia Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors
(SIOR). He participates on Boards/Committees of numerous civic/business
organizations and is a retired Captain (SEAL) in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
